First Impression

Fast, exciting and pure Island action!

Track Design

Micster is somewhat of a jump/transition expert! This track doesn’t contain a single loop or similar stunt, and there’s only one wallride. The rest is pure street/platform racing. It’s extremely fast and the transitions and jumps are very smooth. There are no stunts needed, because this track will keep you on your toes anyway.

This doesn’t mean the track is overly difficult though. It offers a great challenge, but as long as you don’t hit any obstacles you should be fine. The roads are fairly broad but with a few narrow sections which adds to the excitement.

I have nothing else to add, simply a great design!

Rating: 9.5

Scenery

Good scenery that always gives you something to rest your eyes on. You’ll never be empty eyed (yes, I just made up that expression 😛 ), and the great scenery also adds to the fast feeling of the track. On the downside, there’s nothing really new in the scenery, but that doesn’t matter too much, as it’s still a great scenery!

Rating: 9.0

MediaTracker

Intro: Awesome intro! Combines cool effects with nice views of the track, and extremely good camera movements. A bit short though.

In-game:A slow and smooth GPS (a bit too slow perhaps, if you want to check out a specific section, but still quite stylish). No in-game cameras needed.

Outro: Great outro with cool effects. Some really good camera angles, but unfortunately also some less good ones. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I want to see the race, not just the vehicle!

Rating: 8.5

Originality

Not that original at all. Simply a series of extremely cool jumps, turns, platforms and road parts, but nothing really new or inventive… But then again, it isn’t needed.

Rating: 3.0

Fun Factor

Great fun here! I love the rush, the speed, the excitement! The less good side is that, to be honest, we have seen it before, and even from the same author. Time to change the style?

Rating: 8.5

Summary

A quite stunt-less design, yet still very good. Fast and exciting throughout the entire track, and with cool jumps and smooth transitions. The scenery is very good, and the MT work too. Lacks originality, but it doesn’t need it, because it’s still such an exciting track!

Final Rating: 8.5 (very good)

DISCUSSION:

This track doesn’t really bring anything new, and we’ve all seen this kind of full-speed platform Island track before. But what do you think, should authors stick to what works or should they renew themselves? Express your thoughts by commenting this post!

Great review Jozii, FullAuto rocked 😛 there was also an ingame easter egg you probably didn’t find
And yeah, I think Micster should try something new, maybe rally 🙂

  2. micster says:

    What? Me try Rally?! 😛

I have a hate for Rally, it’s too slippery and not for a KBer like me.

Anyway, great review Jozii, as usual. Also, what do you expect in originality? I can’t think of anything else. 😛

  3. Jozii says:

Well basically, to be original, you’d have to include something that makes the player go “wow, that’s a really cool idea”, but you shouldn’t get too hooked up on it. I usually ignore th originality rating quite a lot when giving the final rating, as many tracks are just brilliant yet without any truly new ideas. The originality rating is more there to give tracks that look really poor (there are a lot of them), are extremely bad as actual race tracks, and just generally score low on all other subjects, but have a lot of very unusual ideas in it. I’ve even considered not including “originality” at all except if the track has an unusual amount of originality…

But hey, even though your track is great without being extremely new or inventive, perhaps it is time to test something new? 😛

micster, try new block combinations or ‘design’ new scenery. MT can make a difference too 🙂

Alright, I’ll see what I can do, but I can’t promise anything. 😛
