TMX Track List #7

As pointed out when the previous TMX Track List was posted, only having ratings for the tracks on the list isn’t enough. Previously, nothing concrete was said about the tracks listed, and just a number doesn’t say anything about what style the track is. Therefore, text has now been added for each track on this weeks list – and this will of course be the standard from now on 😉

This week we also have five players listed for the very first time: Sivert, JakeOIL, Andree, Aaerox and Heah. These have done a great job and have received really good ratings. Among all tracks reviewed in this weeks TMX Track List, two were even so highly rated they earned a spot in the top 5 at our Tracks Page!

And speaking of the Tracks Page: With the 10 tracks reviewed in this post, we now have more than 100 reviews (101 to be exact – not including Blog Tracks, tracks used for article purposes or tracks that have only been advertised, not reviewed). That means that one of the tracks on this list – the second last one to be reviewed – is our 100th reviewed track! The lucky author of that track therefore wins 1000 coppers 😀

Note: If you have signed up for the TMX Track List, but are not listed, it’s because you have not uploaded a new track since the last time the list was updated, or because the limit of a maximum of 10 tracks on this weeks list has been reached (in which case you will have a greater chance of being listed next time instead).

  • Author:Sivert
  • Environment: Stadium
  • Mood: Sunrise
  • Length: 2 min
  • Rating: 8.5/10

Probably the coolest, in a weird way, track I’ve ever seen! You should really take the title literally on this one – the goal of the track is to play 9 holes of minigolf, in classical minigolf design. As a racing track this isn’t much to be excited about, and the scenery isn’t what would be required in a “real” track either, but this track is unique and should therefore be given special treatment. If this would have been a pure racing track, the score would probably haven been a 4, but as that isn’t the case, this simply is a magnificent track! And great MT work as well 😀

However, even considering with special treatment and a different view on what is required to make a track like this one good, the scenery could still be better. Also, there are places where signs could have been needed (arrows, not just the “Hole” signs).

  • Author:Aaerox
  • Environment: Stadium
  • Mood: Day
  • Length: 1 min 30 sec
  • Rating: 7.5/10

Wallrides, loops, halfpipes, platforms, technical mixed with speed… What else is required in a Stadium track? This is a really fun track to drive, but it does have it’s flaws: A bit boring scenery, bumpy MT work (and no outro 😦 ), and a few silly mistakes such as a lot of reverse boosters and no cam change in the last loop. The track has the required content, but the way it’s all put together is a bit… well, sloppy! Should be great online or as a WR hunting track though 😀

Techy Track II

  • Author: Andree
  • Environment: Stadium
  • Mood: Day
  • Length: 1 min 15 sec
  • Rating: 8.0/10

Great technical design and some quite innovative jumps and transitions. Slightly difficult to navigate at times, but nothing to worry about. Additionally, the scenery and MT work is decent but nothing out of the ordinary (nice idea with the pistol in the start though, but we’ve seen it before). Some minor flaws, but overall a great technical track!

  • Author:JakeOIL
  • Environment: Coast
  • Mood: Sunrise
  • Length: 1 min 15 sec
  • Rating: 9.0/10

Great design mixing technical and speed without forcing the driver to break too hard, which is unusual in the Coast environment. Some very nice sections and a really good scenery. MT work is good too. On the downside there’s a lack of innovation, but that doesn’t matter too much, as the overall design is so well made which compensates for it. Also, perhaps some sections have too long straights – if they were shorter it wouldn’t be necessary to let go of the gas that much – but then again, the design is so well made the turns can be taken at fairly high speed anyway.

TwisTeD TransiStoR

  • Author: Tonic_91
  • Environment: Stadium
  • Mood: Night
  • Length: 1 min
  • Rating: 9.5/10

Great technical yet fast design, and very cool jumps and transitions. The many various inventive parts of the track makes the entire design appear new and fresh. There’s a re-use of a platform section which is very cool, but in one direction you have to get past a checkpoint block from the side, which annoys me a bit. Other than that, noting to complain about – great scenery, MT work and a really fun track! In fact, this is my favorite track of the day 😀

For an innovative and very well carried out design, a very high rating – the extra .5 after the 9 is for the great choice of music 😛

Snowy Mountain

  • Author:Heah
  • Environment: Alpine
  • Mood: Night
  • Length: 30 sec
  • Rating: 7.5/10

Fast and with quick turns –  a pure adrenaline rush! That makes for a great and fun track, and I can’t really complain about the design (other than the fact that it’s too short – I want more 😀 ), but there are some minor flaws such as lacking scenery. Also, there’s one major flaw: no MT work AT ALL :O That’s not good. But then again, the track is good and therefore receives a score accordingly.

  • Author:[RX] Alselius
  • Environment: Coast
  • Mood: Day
  • Length: 1 min
  • Rating: 8.0/10

This track actually lagged a bit on my PC, probably due to the exaggerated use of scenery. I’m quite sure a lot of bushes and even buildings could be removed without hurting the scenery.

The track as such is really good: it contains most things a real Coast track should contain. It’s quick and there’s always something going on – you won’t get bored! However, you’ll probably have to do a lot of slowing down before turns. Also, there’s no real innovation in the track… but still, a very good piece of work!

Bay XTrain

  • Author: Markus
  • Environment: Bay
  • Mood: Sunrise
  • Length: 1 min
  • Rating: 8.0/10

The Ups:

  • Fast
  • Good looking start
  • Thank-you list
  • MT work (all of it!)
  • The music

The downs:

  • Lack of scenery at times
  • Too many and too long (and therefor boring) straights

  • Author:Micster
  • Environment: Coast
  • Mood: Sunset
  • Length: 1 min
  • Rating: 8.0/10

Micster is celebrating one year of track building with this Anniversary track – and it just so happens that this is also the 100th track ever to be reviewed at the TMU Blog (no I did not arrange it; it was just a lucky coincidence). Micster, the author, therefore wins 1000 coppers!

Now about the track: The design is good, with some smooth driving. However, I find it in lack of exiting parts. There’s nothing to really thrill the driver. Also, there’s nothing really inventive.

But the base structure is good, the MT work is nice and the scenery is great! A very good track, but which could use something more…

AntiBoost 2

  • Author:Buchi
  • Environment: Bay
  • Mood: Sunrise
  • Length: 45 sec
  • Rating: 8.5/10

Once again a technical but also fast track. The design is really good, and I like the loops in particular. There are some “less  interesting” parts though, such as long straight sections which doesn’t bring any excitement. The platform sections are good though, and the track has this unique feeling, which is always good.
