The TMU Blog becomes the TMX Blog

In this post I’ll answer some of all your questions πŸ˜‰

First off, I’m sad no one except TimeBreaker guessed that a part of the “secret plan” was to turn the TMU Blog into the TMX BlogΒ (good job TimeBreaker), and he only did it over MSN, not here on the blog πŸ˜› Shame on you guys!

But yes, you read that right! With all the lowered activity here on the TMU Blog, fewer posts and slightly fewer visitors, it was time to do something about it, and like I’ve said before, closing it would just be sad. So a while ago I talked to MrA over at TMX, and he was all for the idea of “re-branding” it the TMX Blog: change the name and look and make it an official part of TMX. In fact, all that was his idea in the first place!

But that’s not all. A major reason for the lack of activity is the lack of people to do the writing. As you know, I “retired” from the blog months ago, handing it over to Alcator. However, in the long run he too had to face the facts of real life, not having the time to keep the blog active. So how will moving it to TMX make things better? Well, I’m going to make a bigger deal out of letting everyone write! The plan is to invite everyone and anyone to send in their own articles, from long guides and in-depth article seriesΒ to track reviews, rantsΒ Β and simple links to YouTube videos along with a few comments. The content will be up to YOU –Β a blog for the TM players, by the TM players.

How it will work in reality is yet to be seen.

So lets sum things up and answer some more questionmarks:

  • The TMU Blog will become the TMX Blog.
  • There will be a NEW blog, not the originally planned re-make of this one.
  • The old TMU Blog will still be here to read, but no new posts will be written. Basically, the TMX Blog IS the TMU Blog, just with a new host and name.
  • The new blog will be United and Nations in one.
  • The content of new blog will, hopefully, to a great extent be written by you, the readers.
  • There will probably be more TMX-related posts, like what’s going on at the TMX forum or updates on any current TMX contest – but not too much of it!
  • There will probablyΒ be less of the old stuff, like track reviews on request and Screenshot of the Week, particularly because I will do much less writing myself,Β though if someone actually writes posts like that, it will most likely be published.

I also have to say that nothing is settled yet. We don’t know when the new blog will be ready, we don’t know how the whole let-the-readers-write idea will work out, we don’t know what type of content there will be, etc.

And last but not least, I of course want your feedback on all this. After all, you’re the loyal TMU Blog readers, and if you want to have a say in things, now’s the timeΒ πŸ˜€ I’m confident the new blog will be a success, if for no other reason then at least because we’ll be able to reach out to all the TMX members, United and Nations ones alike. But what direction would you like us to take, what relation to the old TMU Blog would you imagine, do you as a reader think you’ll write an article or two, and what do you think as a whole about this entire deal about moving to TMX?

Oh, and a little PS: You’re right, the new skin I added to this blog was horrible, so I’ve changed back πŸ˜‰

That’s pretty exciting news for the blog πŸ™‚ I’ll miss the updates to this one, though I can understand the need for a big refresh like this. I think including Nations into the blog will definitely attract more readers and contributors. Jozii, I don’t know how finalized the new blog is, but if you need any help setting it up/hosting it I’d be happy to pitch in! I’m getting more free time these days so maybe I’ll be able to write a piece or two for the blog like the good ol’ days, eh?

So are you moving the blog directly onto the TMX site? I don’t really know if I like that idea so much. TMX kinda serves me as, well, exactly what the title implies: tracks. I always liked having the TMU Blog as its own little niche in the community, but I understand that being a direct part of the TMX website would allow you to get a bigger user outreach.

Yay, old skin back! All I have to say is that I’m glad the smiley face has found its rightful place on the page again πŸ™‚

Nice to know you are still committed to the blog Jozii πŸ™‚ Keep up the great work, whatever the blog turns out to be! If you need anything you can always feel free to ask πŸ™‚

    Great comment πŸ˜€

Fleppie, one of out coders from TMX Nations, is the one setting up the blog for us. To be honest I don’t know what it will look like, though the only reason for hosting it on tme TMX server is that otherwise it would cost us another $30/year if we want a new, custom url (which of course we do πŸ˜€ ). Besides, for it to really be a fresh start, I think a new, TMX hosted blog is great solution πŸ˜€

Hopefully it will still be the good old TMU Blog, but at a new place πŸ˜‰
I’ll hold you to the article-thing. It was great when you were around doing a few pieces, and we can certainly need more of that πŸ˜€ You did a great job, and it would be great if you could do so again πŸ˜€

So again, thanks for a great comment πŸ˜€

  3. Very good news πŸ™‚

I jusrt have one thing in mind… “United and Nations together”

Then, please… do not post 80-90% of Nations-news (like Stadium track-reviews and stuff)
Even while including the Nations guys, try to balance the environments πŸ˜‰

    Otherwise : gogogogo :p

  4. MrA says:

Just to say, TMX is not taking over the TMU blog. The blog is joining TMX and hopefully it will make it possible for more people to blog about TM related stuff. So supposing someone wanted to post an anti-tmx article on the blog, tmx itself is not in the way of that, the blog will be its own entity and I’m sure if anyone tried to make it anything other then Jozii would put a stop to it rather quickly.

Perhaps (major perhaps), one day, we will make a blog component to TMX like we have a forum component… but not for a long time…

So I hope TMX hosting the blog and using its presence in the TM world to gain readers and writers will be a good thing.

EDIT by Jozii: In this comment, MrA did a ton of typos which he later asked me to fix. So I did, ’cause we don’t want him to look stupid now do we πŸ˜› And now he’s gonna hate me because I added this “Edited by Jozii” comment πŸ˜‰ This is so much fun!

Hmm, very interesting. Maybe I’m going to write some articles for the “new” Blog πŸ™‚

  6. tmjonas says:

    Very interesting indeed!

I’ve rarely been here due to more activity at other places (TMX for example) and so to me it sounds very good moving to TMX. The quality here has always been great and I think also with the new let-everybody-write-system that won’t change.
Important will surely be to look through all the sent articles and overwork them if necessary or just decide to post it or not, else maybe there will be a lot of rubbish to post. But basically I really like that idea and maybe I’ll also write one or another article (though I mainly work at the german blog). I’m sure there will be a lot interesting things to post. πŸ˜‰

I’ve always liked the reviews written here, so I would still love to see many reviews, I think this will just be depending on the activity of possible ‘new’ writers.

United and nations together… I think it depends on how you work with that fact. Like gary said I don’t hope that it drifts into nation-hands, but to be honest I don’t think so. πŸ™‚

Great work, keep it up and I hope the future of the blog will be brighter and especially that I’ll also pop up from time to time.

Obviously, all material will be read through, spellchecked and processed prior to publishing. Also, it won’t be posted as it arrives, we’ll make sure things are balanced in terms of content, nations vs. united, etc.

When it comes to reviews and other track-related stuff, statisticly there would be more Stadium tracks of course… But at the same time, I’m sure we’ll manage to keep a nice balance πŸ˜‰ All in good time…

And like MrA basically said: TMX won’t stop content simply because it’s “bad” for TMX. But then again, I don’t think anyone thought they would to begin with πŸ˜›

  8. MrA says:

you are a very very very very funny person.

EDIT by Jozii: Cool, a comment free of spelling mistakes πŸ˜›

  9. Jozii says:

Am I the only one who finds MrA’s comment a bit sarcastic? πŸ˜›

  10. v000nix says:

    You are not =P

I don’t know the background, but it makes me thinking that he blocked a tmx-news of you some time ago^^

  11. koentjuh says:

hehe, finally you brought that news up ^^

Hope it will be on soon enough, so our project can continue :S

  12. Jozii says:

So do I. We’re back to the “include old content vs. not including the old content”, and Fleppie, who we are relying on as he’s the expert on the field, is a very busy man πŸ˜›

  13. *cough* is he THAT busy? ^^

  14. Jozii says:

Apparently πŸ˜› This is taking much longer than planned, but we’re still on πŸ˜‰ I’m afraid I don’t have more to say than that…

  15. smok3y says:

So by when do we get the new blog, and where will the link be posted πŸ˜›

  16. Aaerox says:

    Good question smok3y. πŸ˜€

  17. Jozii says:

Shouldn’t be long now, I hope πŸ˜€ Fleppie has shown me what it currently looks like already, so it is under construction πŸ˜‰

The link will of course be available at TMX, probably as a button on the header πŸ˜€

  18. Aaerox says:

But I hope here will be posted a link, button etc., too?

  19. Jozii says:

Absolutely πŸ˜€ Will probably make a new post with the link, and leave that as the “final post” of the TMU Blog πŸ˜‰

  20. DABH says:

Sooo… has the new blog been created yet, and I’ve just been spazzy and missed the link? Or do you have an eta on the new blog? Really looking forward to it! πŸ˜€

  21. Jozii says:

Check TMX πŸ˜‰ I’ll make an official post here soon enough, but yeah, the blog has been made public πŸ˜€

  22. v000nix says:

    When is “soon enough”? πŸ˜€

  23. Jozii says:

    Haha, good question πŸ˜›

  24. TimeBreaker says:

Hey, did I ever get something for my epic guess? xD

This blog is completely dead now?
